Here we go...

Hold tight everyone...I have decided to start a blog. Last night I was on the phone with my good buddy, Matt Townsley, sharing political opinions (upcoming election- GO VOTE!!!) . Anyways, after a comment about how I believe early voting is kinda dumb (isn't that what absentee ballots are for?), Matt said, "you should start a blog." So I did. Be not afraid, I am not going to indoctrine you with my political beliefs. In fact, I think I will try to stay away from that on this blog. In lieu of not talking politics all the time, I will just keep you up to date with what is going on here in Chariton and at Lineville-Clio schools and throw in my own meandering thoughts about life. Should be interesting, so buckle up...

The first topic I would like to touch on tonight is the World Series. Why? Well, because it is on tv as I type. I am kinda torn, I dislike the Cardinals and seeing the Red Sox win and break their curse would be cool. The problem lies in the fact that I always wanted to see the Cubs break their curse first! Come on, their curse is older, shouldn't that allow them to have their moment of glory first? So maybe I don't want either team to win, just some odd turn of events that the series is canceled tied 3 games to 3. Nahhh, I feel the Red Sox's pain, GO SAHWX (in my best Bostonian accent). Later

  • Good call with the blog, CKG.
I agree, "what's with early voting?" Also, here's a question for all to consider: Is it truly the government's responsibility to provide health care for the general public (i.e. Medicare)? I often wonder if our founding fathers ever intended for public dollars to support such programs. The same could be said for social security: Should the government be in charge of providing some sort of financial support for the elderly? I guess the obvious answer is, "Yes, Matt...that's why we created it years ago!" Seriously though - those that know me recognize that I lean towards the limited government idea, however - when will we, the people, decide that we are far better off without the government interfering with our lives? After all, if our democracy gives us freedom of speech, religion, etc, why not also the freedom to choose not to pay into S.S. and medicare? Ramblings? Indeed...I hope it sparks some good conversation.

  • wow matt, asking the tough questions on government when i already said i was going to try and stay away from that. he's gonna suck me in sooner or later though i suppose. You raise some good points, but the preamble of the Constitution says "We the people in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, PROMOTE THE GENERAL WELFARE and ensure the blessings of liberty..." I guess it all depends on your definition of PROMOTE THE GENERAL WELFARE, but I think it means to help out the American public when they need helped. I will agree that sometimes the system oversteps its boundaries or is abused by people and that needs to be cleaned up, but I see no problem with Social Security, Medicare, even Health Insurance as long as it can be done fiscally.
